notes from the field
I know that the important stuff happens when moving my body. The dry, dirt-filled cracks in my hands hands, the soggy socks buried beneath my boots, and the tender spots in my spine that hold repetition and hard work are proof that I can meet discomfort and walk alongside it. That I am capable of concentrating, establishing rhythm, and carrying what is heavy.
I also know that the important stuff happens when sitting at a table, too. The spattering of sauces, clinking of glasses, and generous trail of bread crumbs are all evidence of slowing down, sharing, and savoring.
They’re both a means to the same end. Presence is our opportunity to dig deeper, strengthen our palate, and live a more flavorful, textured, and joyful life.
